Had Shingle After Cervical Neck Fusion. Got Again After Eye Surgery. Itching In Ears. Reason?
I had a case od shingles right after a cervical neck fusion. I was just about 6 weeks out and still had scarring but no pustules. I had eye surgery and then got a case od shingles again but on the other side of my body from my buttocks area to my hip. Could I have shingles with in my body even though I have had two treatments of healing it. I have constant itching in my ears inside and a swollen gland on the same side as the last buttocks shingles. Is it ever going away.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Jay Patel's Response
Hi,
I understand you concern about the shingles, but the honest answer is no it will never go away. There's no cure for shingles, but prompt treatment with prescription antiviral drugs can speed healing and reduce your risk of complications.
Even though you were treated with the antivirals / medications to heal they will not kill all of them and will stay in you nerve endings for ever, but only can come out if the person's immune ( defense) system is compromised.
Hope it addresses your concern.
Thanks Dr. JAY PATEL
