Hard Lump Under The Area Where Molar Pulled, Not Seen In X-ray. What Is Going On ?

Hi, I have a molar 18# pulled or cut out on Monday 5th and now I have a hard lump right unger the area of the pull tooth. The lump is also where #19 would be. 19# was pulled a long time ago but the lump is only where there is no teeth. It stop and drops off suddenly at the wisdom and goes all the way to my canine and drops off again. It dosent hurt with light pressure but if a bump it against something it hurts like hell. Its on the outside of my gum line. I went back to my dentist and they did an xray and found no tooth left. Also the xray didn't show the lump at all. The dentist thinks it an infection and gave a astronger antibodic. Does and one know what might be the name of what's going on?

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

It appears from your history that you have developed an abscess in the region of extraction. Also the extended swelling could be due to abscess only.

As you are already taking antibiotics and analgesics please do not worry, complete the course ,it should regress.

If the lesion still persists then you can go for oral surgeon s advice after taking a biopsy the exact cause can be diagnosed.

so far so good, lets wait and watch.with the change of antibiotics the abscess should resolve.

Meanwhile do warm saline rinses too and maintain good hygiene as speedy recovery measures.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

The lump developed post extraction of molar may be due to hematoma formation .

I would suggest you to get the socket curetted and irrigated with betadine solution.

Dressing the socket with ZOE pack may be helpful.

Complete course of antibiotics-analgesics.

Maintain oral care.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
Was the extraction a complicated extraction or simple? if the extraction was complicated it usually means that the tooth is in several pieces or will be by the time it comes out and in that case there is always a possibility that a fragment might remain and slowly worked its way to the near surface and now if causing you concern.
Finish the antibiotics and follow your routine care that your dentist instructed you on. The socket will gradually heal on its own and close up over time, As long as your symptoms are improving.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Lump at the site of extraction can be due to abscess formation in the region, also can be haematoma formation, a clinical examination of the region is required.

Take the complete course of antibiotics and analgesics prescribed to you if an abscess the swelling will subside in sometime.

At home take lukewarm saline and antispetic mouthwash rinses.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.

If the symptoms persists or worsen visit to the concerned Dentist and get the checkup done.

Wish you a speedy recovery,

Take care!
