Have Been Experiencing Lower Back Pain. Seen A Neurosurgeon. Referred To Nerve Specialist. Had Removed Appendix. Suggestions?

Hey---I'm a 47 year old white male and I've been experiencing lower back pain for several months. I've seen a neurosurgeon recently and he is referred me to a nerve specialist to do a EGI. In the meantime, two days ago I woke up with a sharp pain in my lower right side, more towards my back than the front. No pains in my belly or problems with urination. I had my appendix removed a couple years ago. But this pain in really sharp and it stays in one spot. It doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my kidneys, but the pain is in that area. What are your thoughts?

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

You need proper clinical examination and investigations.
Investigations include routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,Lipid profile, urine RE/ME, ultrasound of abdomen,X-ray L/S spine AP/Lateral, MRI L/S spine( if needed).
Treatment can be done only after clinical examination and investigation reports.
There may be various reasons for pain.
Pain may be due to musculoskeletal causes or visceral pathology.
You should avoid lifting heavy objects and forward bending.
Get well soon.

Take Care

hi
thanks for your question
my thought is disc prolapse or problem with bones in vertebral Colom, which may need x-ray of spine and consult of orthopedic surgeon. Second thought is post operative adhesions. You need additional investigations like abdominal ultrasound, cbc, liver and renal function tests to rule out other pathologies.
Hope I answered your question, will be happy to help you if you have other queries.
