Have Bloating, Not Having Bowel Movement For Weeks. Diagnosed As Non Moving Colon. Took Medication. Give Me Suggestion

I have been diagnosed with a slow or non-moving colon and my stomach empties my food to fast to be able to digest it and I am not getting the nutrients my body needs. It has been over 3 weeks since my last bowel movement and I am severely bloated, put on 5 lbs. and having severe pain. I have tried everything from prescriptions to OTC medication and nothing at all works. Do you have any suggestions?

hello there!
thank you for asking. i read your query and i want you to know that the condition you are facing is called intestinal motility disorder and it needs a lot of care and a good gastro enterologist to help you treat this.you seriously need a manual evacuation as 3 weeks is way too much for bowel stagnation.

Here are some life style modifications you need
Increase fiber in Diet
Increase fluids intake
Avoid fermentable foods
Take supplements for vitamins, and minerals (eg, vitamin B-12, iron, calcium, folic acid, water-soluble vitamins, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, trace elements)
Consult a dietitian for better guidance in meals selection
Avoid strenuous physical excercise, Milds are not forbidden
avoid too much use of laxatives, diuretics, benzodiazepines, and anticholinergic drugs should be limited. Such agents may interfere with gastrointestinal motility and adds to the trouble

Following is the list of some medication you might need

1-Cholinergic Agonists
Neostigmine (Prostigmin)
Bethanechol (Urecholine)

2-Prokinetic Agents
Tegaserod (Zelnorm)
Metoclopramide (Reglan, Metozolv)
Cisapride (Propulsid)

3-Opioid Reversal Agents
Methylnaltrexone (Relistor)

4-Antibiotics
Erythromycin (E.E.S., Erythrocin, Ery-Tab)

You need broad spectrum antibiotics to prevent and treat stagnant loop syndrome with bacterial colonization

I wish i was of some help. take some good care of yourself

Regards
Dr S Khan
