Have Loose Stools And Brat Diet. Having IBS And On Medication To Control It. How To Regulate Bowels?

Hi I suffer with IBS - and take a number of medications to control, but for the past 7 days I have been suffering from loose stools, even with the BRAT diet. I also get this crazy gurgling sounds in the right hand side of my tummy before passing a stool. My appetite etc, seems ok, I just can't seem to regulate my bowels.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

IBS can be diagnosed only after ruling out all other possible reasons of gastrointestinal issues. To do that colonoscopy, gastroscopy, abdominal CT with oral contrast, stool tests, blood work, liver tests, pancreas tests should be done. You can say that you have IBS only if all this tests were negative.

Loose stools, gurgling sounds can be caused by partial bowels obstruction due to inflammatory bowels disease (Crohns disease), chronic bacterial infection.
Please verify if all mentioned tests were done, and if not, you should have them. You may also try Rifaximine treatment. This is a special antibiotic used for IBS treatment.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
