Have Not Had Period. Prescribed Microgestin. What Precautions Should I Take? Will I Get Pregnant?

I had a child in 10/12 and nursed while taking the mini-pill, but never menstruated. I stopped nursing the beginning of 4/13 and my doctor prescribed Microgestin 120 for my birth control. I took the pills for 21 days and during the 4th week I am not supposed to take anything and should begin mentruating. I do not have my period yet, which my doctor said is normal when the body is trying to regulate after having a child. However, they cautioned that I should use an additional method of birth control for 3 months after switching from the mini-pill to Microgestin 120. The information pamphlet said that I should take extra precaution for 1 week while switching birth control so I have only been using the pill as my birth control for 2 weeks. Can I be pregnant? Considering I don't take pills for the 4th week will I need to use back-up birth control for the first week I start the new pack of pills?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

The chance of pregnancy is less in your case.
As your doctor told it may take some time for regularization of the hormonal levels.
As you switched to combined pill immediately after mini pill, there is no need to use additional method for 3 months.
One to two weeks is sufficient.
So you can continue the combined pills as per the schedule. If you still have doubt once go for pregnancy test.
