Have Paranoid Schizophrenia. Taking Clopixol. How To Give Medicine If Patient Refuses?
My sis suffering from Parnoid Scheznophernia. Though she was taking Clopixol every month she got a severe attack & had to be hospitalised 2 weeks back. She seems to be recovering. My query is that how come she got an attack of unusual behaviour & violent attack even though she was taking Clopixol Inj. What are the means of giving a Scheznophernic patient medicine WHO REFUSES TO TAKE ANY MEDICATION . She has now been given Clopixol;but she is now not taking Quetipine pills which is now supposed to take everyday. Can her attack reoccur? She is married / 35yrs old.
Unless she is aware of her illness, she would not take medicine. It is unethical to give medicine to patient without her consent. Your psychiatrist will tell the solution.
Hello........
Thanks for your query. Clopixol is a depot injection that is given for non-compliant patients. If she is not even compliant for the same, the options that can be considered including suspension/syrup formulations, mouth dissolving formulations, sprinkle formlation etc. If she is non-compliant the symptoms are bound to reccur.

Schizophrenia is a chronic illness. It can recur at any point in life. Due to that continuous treatment is necessary to prevent relapse.
In many cases patient do not fully improve with treatment like in her case with clopixol. In that cases following steps may be used:
-Increase the dose of current medicine
-Replace current medicine with some other antipsychotic
-Augmenting current medicine with other medicine.
In non cooperative patient medicine can be given in food (syrup/tablets) or by depot injection.
Wish you Good Health and all the best.
