Shingles occur due to herpes zoster virus which gets reactivated to affect the dermatome of neck and face when the immune system of the body comes down. They manifest as skin eruption on the neck and face region.the lesion s are painful associated with fever , mailase, headache. If it affects the eye its called hZO( herpes zoster ophthalmicus). The eyes may have tearing , redenss, decrease in vision. It may affect any layer of eye.treatment includes 800 mg Acyclovir tab 5 times a day for 7 to 10 days.If there is interstitial keratitis or uveitis then topical steroids are started. If it is associated with retinitis , choroiditis, scleritis or optic neuritis the oral or intravenous steroids ate recommended.
