Have Shooting Pain On Side Of Heal, Comes And Goes. Have Pain While Walking. Suggest?
Shooting pain on side of heal. Started last summer when running so I switched to biking. Started running again this year and it is back. Comes and goes all day but can feel it coming on before the pain starts to shoot up the side of the heal. Unable to run...sometimes I have to stop when walking when the pain starts.
Hi. Pain at the heel is likely to be plantar fasciitis, which occurs due to inflammation of the attachment of the plantar fascia to the calcaneal bone (heel bone). This can occur due to stress/ degeneration/ arthritis. The fact that running activity brings on this pain, indicates that it is due to stress/ degeneration. I would suggest that you use shoes with a soft heel, analgesics, and avoid running or high impact sports. This will take time to improve, and sometimes if severe, a steroid injection may be given under ultrasound guidance for the same. Thank you.
