Having Chronic Tonsillitis, High Blood Pressure. What Should Be Done?
I just took my 17 year old son to the emergency room . He has been having chronic tonsilitis and they are very inflammed again. He is just about to graduate and his baseball team is going to State and he wants to want to have them removed when all this is over. But when we were at the ER his blood pressure was 170/66 and the doctor paid no attention to it whatsoever. What do you think?
HI IAM DR.KAVITHA .HAS YOUR SON EVER HAD A HIGH BLOODPRESSURE READING BEFORE?DID YOU GET HIS BLOODPRESSURE CHECKED AFTER THAT DAY?IF IT WAS JUST THAT SINGLE TIME THEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN DUE TO HIS GENERAL CONDITION THAT DAY.
BLOODPRESSURE IS GOVERNED BY A LOT OF FACTORS .IT VARIES FROM MINUTE TO MINUTE ACCORDING TO THE DEMANDS OF THE BODY.I ASSUME THAT ON THAT DAY YOUR SON WAS ANXIOUS OR MAYBE IN LOT OF PAIN. AND THAT COULD BE A REASON WHY THE DOCTOR IN ER ALSO CHOSE NOT TO MENTION IT.
THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW IS TO MONITOR HIS BLOOD PRESSURE AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE DAY ON DIFFERENT DAYS...EARLY MORNING BP IS THE BEST.BECAUSE MOST HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS EXPERIENCE A BLOODPRESSURE SURGE DURING EARLY MORNING HOURS. IF YOUR SON DOES SEEM TO HAVE HIGH BLOODPRESSURE THEN YOU MUST RUN ALL THE REQUISITE TESTS TO ASSESS HIS CARDIAC AND RENAL FUNCTIONS.A GENERAL PHYSICIAN WILL BE ABLE TO GUIDE YOU ACCORDINGLY. OTHERWISE ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR SONS GRADUATION AND BASEBALL MATCHES.TAKE CARE
