The normal brown colour of stool is due to the bile in the stool changing as it passes along the intestines. During diarrhoea episodes because the stool is passing out faster and more frequently, the changes to the bile cannot occur fast enough so the stool remains green. Green stool when a person is having diarrhoea is not uncommon and it should resolve once the diarrhoea resolves.
Most cases of diarrhoea and vomiting in children is related to a viral infection and does not respond to antibiotics. In some persons antibiotics may cause diarrhoea and vomiting. If there are specific indications of a bacterial infection then the antibiotics can be continued but if not then your doctor may want to reconsider their use.
The use of pedialyte is correct because the most important part of treating diarrhoea and vomiting. It is very important to prevent dehydration by replacing all the fluids that your baby is losing. The doctor would calculate exactly how much is needed based on his weight and degree of dehydration.
