Having High BP Problem.

Hi, Yesterday I accompanied my mother to see an Ob&Gyn doctor for gynecological complaint. Before the consultation the nurse had measured the blood pressure and was shocked to hear from the nurse that the mercury heard high at 180/100. After the specific consultation about the problem I asked the doctor why is it so and there were no symptoms of what so ever… The doctor’s answer blew me. Do you know what could be the commonest symptom for the high BP, sarcastically no symptoms and this was the answer by the doctor

Hi. Its not uncommon to get incidentally detected to have systemic hypertension (or high BP) at that age or for that matter any age above 30 yrs now a days. Having said that, its also common to have one wrong reading, especially if its a first one and is taken by a paramedic or a nurse. Needed to know whether the doctor rechecked it in her room herself or whether a second reading was taken after some time. Anyways she needs to be first monitored for regular serial Blood Pressure readings on a BP chart over the next few days, following which an inference can be made. And if she turns out to be a hypertensive then the first step should be, reduction in her salt intake followed by some other advices which have been discussed on this forum and which will also be told to you by the General physician whom you will have to consult for the same.

Hypertension WHO 1999 reports that 1 out of every 3 deaths in India is due to heart diseases. Amongst several risk factors associated with this growing menace, hypertension or high blood pressure has been established as a key risk factor for heart diseases. What is Hypertension? Hypertension is synonymous with high blood pressure. Blood pressure is a measure of the force of blood against the walls of the arteries, which are the conduits that carry blood from the heart to other parts of the body. In some people, the blood cannot flow easily through these arteries. For example, if the arteries are narrowed for some reason, the pressure will go up to keep the blood flowing. This is high blood pressure. If you have it, you are not alone. Hypertension is a very common condition; however, if left untreated, it can become serious. What are the symptoms of Hypertension? If you have hypertension, chances are that you may not have any symptoms at all. Hypertension is often called the "silent

Simple and most effective home remedy is water. Drink at least 3 liters of water to keep your blood pressure checked. Fresh juice of Adathoda Vasica 30 ml in empty stomach for 30 days is also an effective home remedy.

Follow the Apple Diet The Apple diet is one of the best and easiest ways to help boost the weight loss efforts. It appears there are many versions of this diet. Here's an easy to use version that will give you slow, steady weight loss. This is not an extreme diet like you may think. Rule #1: Eat 1-2 Apples before each meal, minimum of 3 times a day. Before breakfast, eat 2 Apples. Before lunch, eat 2 Apples. Before dinner, eat 1 Apple. So you eat 5 total Apples a day. Rule #2: Eat whatever you want for meals. This rule is simple... eat whatever you want, just as long as you eat 2 Apples before breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Obviously eating healthier than normal would help your weight loss efforts even more, but it's not 100% necessary. You can replace 1 Apple with an Pomegranate before breakfast and lunch. you should notice a steady weight loss. It won't be extremely fast however it will give very good results. More over it will control your blood sugar levels and hypertension in control.

Hi, I am a medical student studying the third year at a medical school in Nagpur. Good going about the topic. I would like to add few facts about the blood pressure and its diagnosis by doctors. It’s told by one of our assistant professors that hypertension (BP) is present in 50% of population, it is diagnosed in 50% of them, and only 50% are started on the proper treatment and in that only 50% are continuing the treatment and in which 50% have already set into the complications. So a common man can imagine from this where he falls in.

Patients in whom no specific cause for hypertension is detected are called primary hypertension. The cause of hypertension is not found in a vast majority of cases. In fact no specific cause is found in almost 95% of patients with hypertension. The vast majority of cases of primary hypertension are due to increased stiffness (resistance) of the peripheral arteries.Cases of hypertension where some specific cause can be found are termed as secondary hypertension. Though accounting for only 5% of cases of hypertension, these are important because correction of the cause can often lead to cure of hypertension.
