Having Lump Left Side Of Rib Cage. Feels Tender And Slightly Painful Sensation. Remedy

Hi,

I'm a 25 year old male, and have discovered a pea-sized lump on the left side of my rib cage, about 2 to 3 ribs up.
I believe it is mobile -- at least a few weeks ago it definitely was (I noticed it, felt around it for a while and then I couldn't find it anymore). Though now it does not go away anymore by moving it. However, I don't think it is attached to the rib itself, as when I pull up the skin (I'm quite skinny), when I touch the ribs, I can't feel the lump any longer.

It is very mildly tender, not really painful, but I can still definitely feel a slightly painful sensation. A little bit how a small ulcer would feel like.

I do not know exactly how long it's been there, but it must be at least a month, maybe longer.

I'm concerned it might be getting bigger, as it became more prominent now. However, it could simply be that I can feel it better now and that it's not actually getting bigger.

you cannot see it when looking at it, although there is a small red spot that might just be because I've been touching it a lot lately to check if it's getting bigger.

I'm thinking about seeing a doctor for this and I will if it's of any concern at all. However, wanted to ask here first.

Thank you for your advise,
kind regards

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such lump is usually a benign skin lesion. Most likely this is a sebaceus cyst or a lipoma. Both lumps are completely harmless. Both are located right under the skin. Sebaceus cyst can get infected and cause pain if the pus will appear. Both lumps can get bigger however it is a slow process.

The best way of diagnosis and treatment of such lumps is soft tissues ultrasound and surgical removal of it. Such procedure is done with a local anesthesia. Small incision is made, lump is removed (and send for histopathologic tests) and some stitches are applied.

So there is nothing to worry about, just visit your doctor and decide either you want to remove it or not.

Hope this will help.
Regards.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

The long duration, mobility, absence of symptoms, no regional lymph nodes - all point out to it being a benign lesion...
If it is a single lesion, the best option is to get removed.
Biopsy will confirm the diagnosis.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
