Having Sore Throat, Coughing Up Green Phlegm. Swollen Lymph Nodes Causing Sleeplessness. What Could It Be?

i am 21. I have had a sore throat with the following symptoms for over 3 weeks now; I have been coughing up green phlegm and it has been very painful to swallow and yawn. It feels like i have something ripping my throat every time i swallow and especially when i yawn. I can feel my lymph nodes swelling up in my throat, right under the base of my tongue and on the sides above my adams apple. my sleep has been greatly disrupted by these symptoms and i am wondering what my problem could be. It has been so persistent and chronic for awhile now. Please help. Thank you

Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M. for your query.

I have gone through your query regarding sore throat and green phlegm for about 3 weeks. Your sore throat is so severe that you have pain on swallowing and coughing.

Considering your complaints and analysing it to co-relate with possible pathological process it appears as you are having respiratory tract infection, there may or may not be involvement of sinuses. To frame the diagnsis you are advice for these investigations-

(a) C.T. scan of paranasal sinuses.

(b) X-Ray chest- ( P.A. View ).

(c) Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

(d) Blood- CBC, ESR, blood sugar-(F. & P.P.), SGPT, Serum creatinin.

(f) Urine - Routine & Microscopic.

After a thorough examination and clinical co-relation of investigation's report one may reach to correct diagnosis and that may be accordingly plan for treatment.

Regards.
