Head Injury, Headaches, Dizziness, Nausea, Cold Sweats, Diarrhea, Pressure In Ears. Concussion Symptoms?

My 16 yr. old daughter suffered a blow to the head by her horse five days ago. She was seen in the ER. She did not vomit or black out. She has headaches and dizziness and nausea . We followed up with her PCP two days ago. She has been taking it easy, but last night she woke up with cold sweats, stomach pain and diarrhea. She compained of pressure in her ears. Needless to say I am concerned about these new symptoms. Are they related to the concussion?

Thanks for writing your query.

Headache, dizziness and nausea can be due to concussion. Stomach pain and diarrhoea are not due to concussion.

You have not mentioned whether she was put on some medications during her visit to ER. It might be a possiblity that she must have been given some pain killers. Pain killers increase the acidity in the stomach which can cause the symptoms mentioned by you. You can give her antacid like Omeprazole 20 mg once a day to decrease the abdominal symptoms, after discussing with her treating doctor.

You should get a scan of her head done to rule out any internal injury.

Also get her examined by a ENT specialist to examine for assess the cause of pressure in her ears.
