Headache, Treated For Sinus, Cant Sleep, Hot Flashes. Was Advised On A New Sleeping Med, Trazadone, Same. Suggestion?

I am almost 57, this week. I had a total hys over 10 years ago. Have been on antid way before that after a miscarriage, stresses in new marriage. I have sever problems sleeping for over 10 years also. Tried many different prescription drugs. I have not been on any hrt in a couple of years, haven't had a hot flash in a long, long time. Past six months I have had what I thought were sinus infections. Went to doc and was treated for that and symptoms of headache (whole head), fatigue, "swimming" head feeling and would feel good for a month or so. Two months ago I started having hot flashes again??? Went to doc yesterday and decided to order CAT scan, but not sure if my insurance is going to allow it. He tried me on a new sleeping med, trazadone -- didn't do anything. I was awake all night. I can take one ambien and nothing, but two knock me out. Can't do that either when grandkids are here. I don't drink caffiene after noon. I am at my wit's end on why I can't sleep like a normal person, and the hot flashes all of a sudden. Head hurts constantly. Depression is under control. What is wrong with me??

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I would agree with your doctor that a CT or MRI scan of the brain is required to exclude any reason for headaches. Common conditions would include brain ischemia (lack of blood flow) and infections.

However, your symptoms could also be related to tension headache and stress. In that case, taking medications such as amitryptiline or Dothiepin would help.

Hot flashes could be related to hormonal imbalance.

I hope it helps.
Best wishes,
