High BP During Pregnancy, Headaches, Shivering, Dizziness Post Child Birth. Causes For Symptoms?

My wife recently had a baby, and during the pregnancy, suffered from hypertension . She is still currently taking her blood pressure medication , and though her readings are still somewhat high (average 140 s/80 s), she sporadically suffers spells where she will get a real bad headache , become lightheaded, and shakes uncontrollably due to being cold. These spells usually only last a couple of minutes, and then she is fine again. Is this caused by her blood pressure crashing down to normal levels? Note, she never sufferedfrom high blood pressure until she became pregnant.

hi there, the hypertension that comes during pregnancy is called pregnancy induced hypertension and usually subsides post delivary except in some cases and so she should continue with her anti-hypertension medication. What you have described sounds like a post partum ecclampsia and you need to visit her obstretitian and get her updated with this . She may like to add a few medications and if required run few more tests. Do not overlook this and do get a consult for the same. Take care.
