High Gamma Gt Values In Blood Test, Smoker, Does Not Drink Alcohol. How To Lower Values?
Hellosir!!!i recently have my blood test result and found that I have high Gamma GT values high around 108. I searched the net about it causes and found it is due to drinking alcohol. I have never touched alcohol or its any other form in my life. i do smoke .so please can you tell me what is the reason and also how to lower it
Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) is present in bile canaliculi (tiny ducts originating from gall bladder). It's levels are increased with cholestasis (obstruction to bile flow), certain liver diseases and with drug and alcohol intake. So there are certain other things also apart from drinking alcohol for this GGT elevation. Lowering it depends on the cause.
Take care!

General & Family Physician, Dr. Lohit K's Response
Hi thanks for using HCM.
Why you got done your LFT. Was there any problem or routine check up. The most common cause of raise in GGT is alcohol but other causes are also there like liver infection, some drugs and even some food that affect metabolism. If no physical problem then repeat your LFT once more, hemogram, HBsAg and one USG abdomen to rule out any disease. Hope I answered your question. Take care.
