Hip Pain, Taking Medrol, Feels Better. Is Medrol Masking The Pain?
Hello. I started a medrol dose pack on Friday for excruciating right hip pain. I spent the weekend taking it and icing my hip and resting it. I'm 85% better now on day 3. I'm wondering if the medrol is simply masking the pain such that when I'm finished with it the pain will return or should I expect (barring re-injury of course) that I will remain pain free or at least greatly improved since I am now.
Medrol (methyl prednisolone) is a steroid preparation which is a potent antiinflammatory agent. It definitely tends to mask the inflammatory process and may be your pain recurs after cessation of Medrol therapy.
It is not advisable to use Medrol to supress the symptoms without knowing the underlying cause of your hip pain.
Clinical examination along with an Xray of the involved hip joint & possibly an MRI scan (if needed) will help in establishing the diagnosis.
So, I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for further management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
