History Of Breast Cancer. Have Vaginitis And Vulvanitis. Taken Estradiol And Femhrt. Other Medicine For Spotting?

I have not had a hysterectomy and I am 69 years old. I had stage 1 breast cancer in 2003, estrogen and H negative. I had a lumpectomy, 6 chemo sessions, and radiation. So far no reoccurrence. The last two years I have had severe vaginitis, painful intercourse, vulvanitis, etc. My doctor put me on estraidol and it seemed to work. However after six months, I started spotting and he changed the medicine to Femhrt. I started having a period which lasted over 2 weeks. I was then taken off the Femhrt and had a pap, vaginal and uterinie ultrasound. All normal. Is there another medicine I could take like Vagifem 10 that would be helpful.

Hello ma'am.

Your presentation seems more related to menopause and yes, a hormonal supplement is the best choice right now. Whether topical application or oral form, medication like vagifem can be considered but only after weighing its pros and cons.

Please consult your doctor regarding the same.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
