History Of Skipping A Dose Of Booster Pentavac Injection For Child, Followed By Giving It After A Year. Took Pentaxim Twice. Any Problem?
hello doctor, i have two queries 1.I have skipped a doze of the booster pentavac injection for my child at the age of 18 months, and i have given it now(he is 2 years 9 months presently) does it cause any problem? 2.At the first he had pentavac then consequently pentaxim twice and now pentavac again(due to the non availablity of the medicine at the store) is it a serious problem?
You need not worry for the vaccines given to your son. Let me answer both your queries: 1. The dates given for vaccination are suggested dates and are the ideal ones. However there is no harm even if it is delayed. As the name suggests the booster dose given at 18 months is to boost the immunity given by the earlier vaccines given during the first year. Giving it late is not going to cause any problem to your son. 2. Pentavac contains whole cell pertussis vaccine whereas Pentaxim contains both acellular pertussis vaccine and injectable polio vaccine. It is not a problem but it is advisable to complete the course with the same type of vaccine. With acellular pertussis the side effects of fever, swelling and pain are less. You should not worry about it.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
