History Of Soft Tissue Pain, Arthiritis, Fibromyalgia. Now Have A Blood Result Showing High ESR. Recommendations?

I have just had a blood result showing high ESR ay 75 and I am to see a rheumatologist in 2 weeks. I am frightened about what this might mean. could I be in real danger. I have suffered from muscle/soft tissue pain for over 20 years and now have some arthritis in my knee. I have hip and thigh pain but my hip x-ray is fine. some age related wear and tear on back x-ray but nothing untoward for my age at 52. I am menopausal and was told over 25 years ago all these problems were fibromyalgia and I don't believe they are.

Hello,

Raise in the ESR is not specific for any disease.
It only indicated presence of chronic inflammation which may be due a range of different conditions from autoimmune, connective tissue disorder to infections.

In your case it may be due to chronic arthritis and myalgia.
It is a good idea to consult a Rheumatologist who may be able to throw some more time into it.
