History Of Stage 2 Breast Cancer. Now Have Clear Chest X-ray And Negative Mammogram. Concerned About Increased CA27 Level

I had stage 2 breast cancer one lymph node positive ,lumpectomy, chemo with ariamician, cytoxin, taxol, then radiation, 7 years cancer free, 6 years on tamoxifen, my cancer was er and pr positive. ca 27 level was 16 at the end of radiation now its up to 33. im 54 postmenopausal. my chest exrays are clear, negative mamagram two weeks ago, concerned about the rise in ca 27

Dear,
I think you need to stop tamoxifen now. Mild increase on CA 27 should not be given much attention at the moment as variation in the levels are a common feature and associated with somany other conditions.After a gap of theree months it needs to be repeated along with CEA. If there results are significantly abnormal we should look to it with concern and get whole body PET scan done to rule out any metestatic problem.

Dear Ma'am,

Sorry to hear about your problem. CA 27.29 levels less than 38 are considered normal. You should not be worried about the small rise in the value of this marker. My advise would be to get a repeat test done after 3 months. If the value rises further, then you should schedule a PET scan to see if there are any metastasis present or not.
