How Can Bleeding With Bowel Movement Caused By Hemorrhoids Be Treated?

I am 38, female, approximately 220 lbs. For the past year or so, when having a bowel movement, there will be bright red blood and clots in the stool. Doesn't happen at every bowel movement, but is enough to concern me. Doesn't matter if I am straining or not. I do have hemroids. Should I have a colonoscopy? (I do feel a little fearful of this procedure.)
