dear doctor i have been taking .50 restyls ( alprozolam for a long time) i want to get out of this and i am finding it very difficult. i am also suffering from severe insomnia due to this restyl addiction. please suggest how to wean this off. as i am finidng it very difficutl. thank you doctor.
I read your query and do appreciate the fact that you want to get out of your problem of taking alprazolam. Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine and cause withdrawal symptoms (like insomnia, anxiety, tremors, etc.) when one tries to stop it.
I would suggest that you seek a psychiatric consultation for helping you stop treatment. The best way out will be to assess if you have any underlying anxiety disorder and treat it accordingly. Alprazolam can be substituted by a long acting benzodiazepine like chlordiazepoxide or diazepam in equivalent doses and gradually tapered off.
You can also start doing daily exercises and meditation which will hep you relax and make it easier for you to stop alprazolam.
Hope this information was helpful. Best wishes.
