Hello. Thank you for writing to us
Acne is recurrent and chronic, therefore, you must constantly take care of your skin.
You do the right thing by avoiding facials and cosmetics on your face.
You mentioned it rightly that you need to visit a
dermatologist in person. Your dermatologist will be able to assess the severity of your acne and acne scaring and advice accordingly.
Acne treatment requires both Oral as well as topical antiacne treatment .
Oral treatment comprises
Oral antibiotics like doxycycline,
minocycline etc and Oral retinoids like
Isotretinoin.
Oral treatment should be started if acne is inflammatory and may be required to be continued for 4-12 weeks depending on severity of acne and response to treatment.
Besides Oral treatment, topical
benzoyl peroxide and
clindamycin gel may be used for active inflammatory acne during day time.
Topical retinoids e.g adapalene gel are ideal for night application. They are comedolytic and antiinflammatory.
Retinoids are also useful for maintenance of improvement.
Your dermatologist might also suggest you to take a few sessions of chemical peeling for active acne.
Regarding acne scaring, various measures that are available are either chemical peeling and
microdermabrasion for mild to moderate acne scaring.
For severe acne scaring, Co 2 Laser, Dermaroller, subcision etc can be useful.
The choice of procedure or combination of procedure and number of sittings will be guided by the severity of acne scars.
