How Can Weight Gain And Tiredness Be Managed?

I m a 51 y/o female with hypothyroid. I have been complaining of weight gain and tiredness since Jan 2014. Last week I had a TSH w/reflex and the numbers were they should be for the dose of unithyroid I m taking. My dr. prescribed addition blood work to include: AM cortisol level FSH LH met. panel. When they called today with the results the office told me that I m post menopausal. I m not sure how can that be, but they haven t addressed the weight gain and/or tiredness. They told me to go to my OB/GYN, but I m thinking may I should see an endocrinologist To top things off my food/calorie intake has been reduced for the past 2 months and I have increased my excerise to walking 2-4miles 3 times a week.

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I have gone carefully through your query and understood your concern.
If the thyroid hormonal level results within the normal ranges than under active thyroid is excluded as a cause of your symptoms.
You didn' t mention the result of cortisol level.
If the hormonal level confirms the menopause but there is still hemorrhage, you must see a gynecologist.
One of the causes of your tiredness may be an anemia or a vit D deficiency.
You may discuss with your treating doctor to take into consideration these probable causes.
Wish uou good health.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
