How Dangerous Could Blood With Diarrhea And Severe Cramps After Having Had A Colonoscopy Be?
Hello, I am a 57 yr old female. I have had cramps and diarrhea all day. I have taken Immodium which has helped some. However, I still have the abdominal cramps and now what comes out now is watery blood. I had a colonoscopy 2 months ago and was good. Should I just wait until tomorrow and see how I feel. I is the blood that concerns me of course.
Bloody diarrhea is usually as a result of infection but for an older adult, we often have to rule out colorectal tumors. Other possible causes are hemorrhoids but since your colonoscopy two months ago came back clean, I will want to lean on infectious origin. There are a good number of germs or microbes that maybe responsible for bloody diarrhea (dysentery) and most of them are often treatable. I recommend a stool exams +/- culture so that the specific germ can be determined and specific antibiotics provided. Your gastroenterologist maybe able to rule out other causes if the need arises.
Hope this helps
