My 76-yr-old father was diagnosed with Stage 4 non hodgkin lymphoma on Aug 18, 2010. Prior to his diagnosis, he had been fainting , having trouble with his colon and losing weight, but for the most part he was in good health. The drs advised our family that my father s cancer is in the appendix and a couple of other areas. It has not spread to the bones. He has undergone 8 cycles of chemo, which included reduxin. That seemed to work, however, due to my father having experienced two fevers while on this treatment the dr has not prescribed it again. Shortly after my father was informed that it looked like his chemo was gone, it had returned. The dr claimed that my father s Lymphoma is very agressive, so we started our second chemo treatment w/6 cycles Genzar. This has reduced the fluid in his abdomen , however, the dr informed the family yesterday that this will not cure him. I would like to know other treatment options. Also, wouldn t the Gemzar eventually remove all the fluid. If not, then how long can we expect my father to live with his Lymphoma?
