Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI SIR........my mom is 48 years old ....now had D12 fracture .............doctor had advised her complete bed rest for 4 weeks..........Doctor had said if pain still persists she had go through surgery..............Can you please advise me how long it takes to make her walk ........I am dying to see her walking again
Most D12 fracture cases heal with proper rest. Surgery is recommended only when there is a neurological compromise. Like paresis of lower limb muscles, urine issue etc. With rest and some care, things work well. Wait for 4-6 weeks. If needed wait till 8 weeks. Do not take the call for the surgery so soon. Pain will come down as the mobility will reduce with rest. You can try to take help from a local physiotherapist for therapeutic ultrasound therapy and TENS therapy. Both of this will help to reduce pain and improve the healing process.
In my clinical practice of over 12 years, most cases with D12 fracture never needed surgery. So be relaxed as it's not something we can't fight at all.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
