How Many Days Will It Take To Heal Painful Outer Thigh Caused By Stretching?

I stepped up onto a chair about 24 hrs ago to reach a cupboard and now the outer right thigh hurts when I walk after a few minutes. Resting in bed it doesn t hurt, but walking causes me to limp. No bruising, no swelling, no fever, ibuprofen helps. I work as a nurse and fear I won t be able to handle the walking all day. I stayed home and rested today. How many days til I can walk normal again?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your question. It does sound like you have sustained a muscle sprain. These can take a few weeks to completely resolve but should be feeling better after the 1st week or so. Antiinflammatory medication is a good idea and seems to be helping you. Physiotherapy may also be of benefit. If your symptoms do not continue to improve then consider seeing you doctor for a physcial assessment and further investigations.

Best wishes
