my mom has been sick for the past few days and last night I went to take her nyquil because she couldn t sleep because she was sleeping so much the last couple of days and she went to pick up a glass of oj w/ her left hand and couldn t lift it past her chest area to get it to her mouth? She also complained of her feet hurting really badly and her eyes and ears also. Now, The question I have is could any of those symptoms have anything to do with her liver or kidney, because my mom is an alcoholic/??
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Nyquil is not meant primarily as a sleeping aid. It has an adverse effect and should not be used for that purpose.
Alcohol use can result in liver damage which can in turn result in a number of health problems and symptoms.
It is quite possible that the current symptoms may indicate some kind of liver damage.
Liver metabolizes medicines, so in those with impaired liver functions, usual doses can result in toxicity. However, to guide you exactly, we will need more details about her background and condition.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
