How Serious Is The Enlarged Internal Jugular Vein?
I ve been having numbness and tingling down both arms that progessively was getting worse. Headaches and weakness as well. My doctor ordered an MRI that showed the internal jugular vein in the back of my head as being enlarged. I m waiting further tests is this serious?
The size of the internal jugular vein can vary greatly, and will often vary in terms of how hydrated you are. I don't think this is what causing your problems, although it is possible you have a blood clot or some kind of obstruction distally. However, this would not be causing pain in your arms. I wouldn't worry too much about this if this is just an isolated finding. There is nothing to do for this, but I would need more information on your MRI findings to accurately give you a diagnosis. To summarize - if the only finding is an enlarged internal jugular vein with no other finding, I wouldn't worry at all about this.
