How To Control Sugar Levels During Pregnancy And Does It Affect The Baby?
i am Sasikala, 30 years old, now i am 19 weeks pregnant. yesterday i took GCT test, after the 2 hours of taking glucose. my sugar level was 175. how can i control the sugar level/ whether it will affect my baby? this is my 2nd pregnancy. no family history of diabetes. in first pregnancy sugar level was normal on lysas
Controlling diabetes during pregnancy is of significance because it regulates the complications of diabetes and pregnancy.
Normally fasting sugars should be maintained belo 92 mg/dl and post prandial sugars should be below 130 mg/dl. If it does not happen then there will be problems like 1. fetal malformations 2. macrosmia - fetal over growth 3. maternal weight gain
But it needs to be monitored
But as per now there is only insulin is the proved treatment available for pregnancy induced diabetes available. It is not recommended to use any drugs but some of the recent studies is showing metformin might useful but not yet brought into clinical practice.
Thanks
