Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had 2 echocardiograms over the last 7 years and have suffered from a lot of palpitations daily, sometimes every few beats for weeks over those years. They always make me feel ill but rarely as though I will collapse. Today I had an episode for 10s that made my eyes fill with light and caused me to cough and be unable to do anything. I am only 26 years old. I don't know whether I need to go back to the doctor based on what happened today, especially as I have been told I shouldn't go back by one cardiologist.
Dear Sir/ Madam Thanks for writing to us. The palpitations are usually caused by premature contractions which are benign entities for most patients. They are important only if the patient is symptomatic or has underlying structural heart disease. Since you are symptomatic , you must see your cardiologist. They can be treated with avoiding precipitant like stress, exercise , tea , coffee, smoking, alcohol, anti-cold medication etc. or need medicines like beta- blockers. Hope they will be controlled. Sincerely Sukhvinder
