Hello,
You need to complete th full course of treatment with your antibiotic. You should be experiencing some improvement after 9 days. Your doctor may consider a stronger dose or change in antibiotic. Contact your doctor and update your status. You may require another visit or tests if you do not completely respond when dose is complete. Did you have a
strep test to confirm the diagnosis?
Oral changes are not uncommon. Rinse with warm salt water. Keep well hydrated as this affects the health of your oral tissue as well as your entire body. Maintain a healthy diet, proper nutrition, balanced vitamins and good daily
oral hygiene. Make sure you have adequate vitamin B complex. Make sure to brush your tongue. Conditions such as a coating on the tongue, soreness and red tissue can indicate a
fungal infection. This may occur with penicillin antibiotics. You would need a prescription anti-fungal treatment such as
nystatin. See your
dentist or oral surgeon if the ulcerated area does not improve or heal within 1-2 weeks. Prscription oral rinses may assist discomfort and healing. Chlorhexedine gluconate is an antimicrobial rinse. Anti-inflammatory medications such as
Tylenol,
Advil and Benaryl are available. Prescription rinses can combine anti-inflammatory, pain and anestetic properties.
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope you find my suggestions useful and that you feel better soon.
