How To Cure White Blisters In Throat And Tongue And Choked Feeling After Taking Levaquin And Prednisone For Respiratory Infection?

I have been on Levaquin for 9 days (1 pill left for tonight), and Prednisone - which I finished yesterday. Taking this for a sinus turned sever respiratory infection that caused wheezing, coughing up pus and drainage of sinuses. Today, my throat is hurting like when I first got sick, so I looked since I feel like I am choking when I swallow anything. I have white blister looking spots in my throat, where tonsils used to be, and on my tongue and gums. Is this a medication side effect or am I still not getting well (still coughing like crazy). This is my second round of an antibiotic since Thanksgiving, and the green pus is finally going away - but I sure don't want to sit around and let it build back up in my lungs again. Please advise. Thanks!

Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

Although you have had a complete course of broad spectrum antibiotics, it seems that there is some kind persisting local infection in your throat. If I were your doctor, I would advise you for a throat culture sensitivity test to know the organism and the most suitable antibiotic at least 48-72 hrs after completion of the present course of antibiotic. Till then, I would advise you for a local povidone iodine gurgles, an anti histamine, and regular steam inhalation apart from nebulisation for wheezing. This should give you relief. However, in case of no relief or increasing symptoms, you have to get yourself reviewed by an ENT specialist/Physician/your treating doctor for further management. You can also go for a TLC, DLC, and absolute eosinophil count in your blood if it has not been done till now.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
