Hi,
The cause can be coughing causing GERD that is gastroesophageal reflux or the other way, GERD causing LRPD that laryngo-pharyngeal reflux disease irritating pharynx and
larynx giving
severe coughing. Hence antibiotic would not work. The symptomatic treatment is as follows:
* Stop antibiotic if there is no
fever or constitutional symptoms or WBC is raised
* Cough syrup to suppress coughing
* PPI like Omeprazole
*
Domperidone to tighten the lower esophageal sphincter
* Steam inhalation
* Any other medicines as would be advised by your doctor
If there is not much relief then go for investigations like X-ray of chest, Upper GI
Endoscopy and get treated accordingly and additionally.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
