Hi doctor, my name is Sunil Makhija, i've been snorting powder morphine for 1 year. I have tried to quit it several times but i can not. I think i am mentally attached to yhe drug. Is there any way you can help me? I really want to get away from it. Thanks
Several things. 1) Group meetings to discuss/share experiences about narcotic abuse. In the US these are called 12 step programs. Since the Far East has always had a group approach to treating problems, I would suspect anywhere in Asia would have something similar. Setting up a supportive environment is very important. Sponsors, family, religious groups, etc. 2) There are specific medications that are helpful. Suboxone is a partially active narcotic. It has some of the effects, at a milder level and prevents other narcotics from being fully active. This sets up a safe environment to wean down. 3) physician involvement in prescribing suboxone and evaluating other health issues is also important. Hope this helps.
You have taken a big step in the right direction by accepting that you have a problem. Now try to find a good psychiatrist in your area so that you can be prescribed medicines properly to manage withdrawal and thereafter to prevent craving for the drug.
Best wishes.
