How To Get Rid Of Tinnitus?

Hi, I am a 23 year old university student. I started having tinnitus since july 2010 when i was about to sit my finals. It constantly fluctuates from one ear to another. I have seen the ENT specialist which basically says you will get use to it. Can you please suggest any thing because it is really effecting my quality of life.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since you are young and has ongoing tinnitus for so long, I would advise you the follow investigations to know the causes:
- MRI of the mastoid, nerves and brain
- Audiometry to know the hearing levels
- Routine check up for blood pressure and any other medical problems as hypertension can give rise to tinnitus

Second opinion of an ENT Surgeon helps to rule out or find out any ENT related problems. Once a proper cause is found, it is easy to have a specific treatment and possible cure. Till then empirical treatment would be started.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
