Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My fathers had a heart attack in july and open heart sugary aug 1 13. He had a pace maker put in a week later. He started getting sorry of breath and really tired about 3 weeks ago. They said his heart function is at 20%. They said they ate going to do a angeogram(not sure if that s right) and that if it shows his gaffs are clogged and they can t fix the original blockages then there is nothing they can do. They said they would upgrade his pace make and try upping his meds. Is there anything else they could try to help his heart. I should also add that he is a diabetic and his had kidney failure for about 3 years. He has also had a leg amputated do to an infection. Please help with any advice. Our a idea how long he could live at 20%.
Dear sir/madam, he is having both renal and cardiac problem. Both system are interlinked. Low cardiac output worsens renal function and worsened renal parameters can put extra workload on heart which in turn decreases pumping capacity. Ideally he has to managed medically. By your description he looks to be in late stage ( advanced disease ) of both kidney and heart. just follow instructions as per your doctors advice. Any intervention will carry grave risk to the patinet. For your information, there are haert failure devices to improve heart function, but who much will it benifit your father is really questionable. Ideally he should be manged with medication, dialysis if needed, salt and fluid restricted diet. Follow up with cardiologist and nephrologist.
