How To Reduce The Swelling Due To Knee Sprain And Bruise After Being Grounded ?

Was diagnosed by doc w/knee sprain & bruise after being tackled to ground over a week ago. Knee looks better/swelling has decreased significantly. Started a little rehabbing w/stretch bands. Still a lump underneath skin on bottom part of knee. Is tgere reason for concern...ligaments or left over blood?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thank you for asking on HCM.
If I was your consulting physician i would suggest:
1. Nothing to worry, sprains take some time (upto 2-3 weeks) to recover, depending on the severity.
2. It may be left over blood unlikely ligaments. However to check for ligaments there are certain clinical tests.
3. Apply non-steroidal anti-inflammatory cream available OTC and put a crepe bandage on it.
4. Also you can soak a pad in warm water and do gentle massage for 10-15 mins for few days.

I hope you find this helpful.
