How To Treat A Hole In The Right Ear?

I am a type1 insulin dependent diabetic and I was diagonosed when I was 18. I am now 44 and have 4 injections daily and take my blood sugar level every 3 to 4 hours. I have a hole in my right eardrum which was operated about 20 years back, but it did not work. I still have a hole there and I suffer from regular earinfections and I am constantly on Augmentin Duo Forte antibiotics. If I do decided to go ahead with the surgery again given my Type 1 Diabetes, how long would I be in hospital for ?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello and welcome to health care magic,

The policy and procedure may vary from place to place. This is what we do in our hospital.
The surgery is called tympanoplasty and the is a relatively simple procedure in good hands. You need to be in the hospital for two days and recovery for five days. No head bath post surgery for three weeks and of course your diabetes should be kept in check. I have done more than a thousand such surgeries so you can get back to me on this.
