How To Treat Acne And Dead Skin Without Making It Worse?

I am a 17 year old male, so acne is normal, but I have been noti notcing it more. I have never had bad acne, but I still break out sometimes. I have very oily skin and that is mist of the issue. I get acne mostly on the sides of my nose and in between my lower lip and chin. Recently I have noticed a few zits on my chest, one on my upper back and one on my upper leg. I have never used acne treatment. I don't want the acne to become resistant and get stronger or worse. Is there a treatment that is proven, that will help fix the problem without making it worse. I also have a problem with dead skin by the way, and sometimes the zits have dead skin. Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic.

At 17 it is not uncommon to suffer from acne. Acne treatment wont make it resistant but rather if you don't treat your acne they may leave behind disfiguring scars.

Since you seem to have moderately severe acne, therefore as a treating doctor I would have started you on oral antibiotics e.g either doxycycline or azithromycin for 4-12 weeks depending on the severity and response to treatment.

Topical benzoyl peroxide gel twice daily for twice daily application, would have been my choice in case of severe acne.

A gentle cleansing lotion e.g cetaphil cleansing lotion is good enough for the cleansing that is required in acne prone facial skin, without causing any irritation.

regards
