How To Treat Hard Lump Below Incision In Groin Area?
my husband had an open repair of an inguinal hernia (indirect) one week ago. He is progressing nicely, less and less pain each day, swelling is decreasing. The only thing that concerns us is that he has a hard lump (like a knot) below the incision in the groin area. The incision is actually in the fold of the abdomen where the abdomen and pelvis regions meet (similar place as a C-section). He will see his surgeon in 5 days. What could this hard lump be?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, The lump you are describing must be some blood/serum collected below skinor body reaction to stitching material, It some times happens after surgery , If it is painful/starts fluctuating/you have fever-It's better to see the surgeon earlier, for it may get infected . this affects healing of incision. You may need antibiotics& anti inflammatory drugs for that. Thanks
