Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. This tingling sensations and numbness in hands could be due to
;
Head injury only - sometimes head injury can cause
severe pain and due to this pain, patient may feel abnormal sensations in body. But it subsides along with relief in pain.
If your husband symptoms have significantly decreased then it could be a possibility. No need to worry. For more relief, you can follow few tips
: Apply icepacks at injury site
: Ask him to painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription.
: Avoid pressure at injury site
: Ask him to do exercise of hand muscles like gripping-ungripping, stretching of fingers.
;
Cervical spine injury - It could be another possibility. Falling on back of head can cause sudden jerking of neck and thus cervical spine injury or
spinal cord injury. It can be mild or severe. Mild injury means temporary damage manifesting as current sensations in limbs, numbness, sometimes mild weakness, neck pain. While serious injury manifests as loss of function, loss of pain-temperature sensations, breathing difficulty,
severe neck pain.
In your husband case, if symptoms of tingling and numbness is persisting and there is no other symptom, it could be due to mild cord injury. You can
consult doctor. He might advise X ray cervical spine to rule out any fracture or advise MRI cervical spine to know about cord or
nerve damage. Mild cord damage may not be picked up by MRI. But it heals on its own.
Depending upon reports, he may prescribe nerve specific vitamins and few drugs like Pregabaline/Nortryptiline to relieve tingling sensations. Meanwhile at home, you can ask him
; To avoid neck flexion
; Use pillow while lying
; Avoid lifting weight
; He can use soft neck collar for immobilisation
; In case of neck pain, apply painkiller gel like Diclofenac gel at pain site
Hope it will help him. If still no relief, you can consult doctor.
Thanks. Take care.
