How To Treat Mild Cerebral Atrophic Changes Due To Dilated Ventricles?
my mother age 70 is diagnosed mild cerebral atrophic changes due to dilated ventricles through MRI . she was recommended MRI by neurologist because she becomes unconscious with nausea or vomiting and after few mins she gets better as well as sometimes she feels imbalance or vertigo for which doctor prescribed serc. please suggest treatment for her
I understand your concern.Cerebral atrophy is an irreversible change that is not amenable to correction by medical or surgical means. Its an age related degenerative change.Dilated ventricles can be an accompaniment.Only obstructive lesions in the the pathway of ventricles can be treated by surgical decompression.Ventriculoperitoneal shunting will help to divert excess CSF in the abdominal cavity thereby reducing the intracranial pressure in the brain. The current symptoms of unconsciousness can be improved if a reduction in intracranial pressure can be attained without compromising the circulatory pressure in the brain.Consult your neurosurgeon for further discussion.,Post your further queries,if any. Thank you
