How To Treat Severe Acne In A 14 Years Old Child While On Doxicycline And Deferine 3% With No Relief?
My daughter is 14,she's struggles with acne, she's had it for 2 yrs. She is currently for last 9 mos. Been on 200 mg. Doxicycline and deferine 3%. Also a antibiotic cream for the morning. It has not completely taken the acne away. Any suggestions as far as what to eat. Or vitamins??
Diet has no direct relation with acne but few studies do suggest that high calorie diet lie chocolates, coffee, coke and sweets etc can lead to a flare.
Differin is Adapalene and is a wonderful antiacne drug, It has antiinflammatory as well as comedolytic activity. I would advice that she continue with it, every night OR every other night/alternate nights.
Doxycycline should not be taken for more than 3 months OR 12 weeks in acne. Three months time period is usually sufficient to control acne but since acne is a chronic therefore the patient may require repeated courses. So it can be restarted again after a gap but should never be given continuously for 9 months!!
Benzoyl peroxide gel can be used during the day. It is available in a strength of 2.5% for face. It is sebostatic, antibacterial as well as keratolytic, therefore beneficial in acne. It also prevents emergence of resistance to anitbiotics.
Use a gentle cleanser like cetaphil for face wash.
take care regards
