Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son in law has type two diabetes he continually is suffering from shingles. Has just started a new job after being made redundant. Stress levels have been high, has two children under 5. Gps just keep saying nothing they can do! Is that right I understand there is a drug called Zostavax, would this be helpful? And should he mention it to his GP Thank you Eileen Leonard
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic forum. First and foremost thing to be done is to have good control over diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes will lower our immunity. Also it is better to screen for HIV if applicable. Zostavax is not a drug used in treatment. It is a vaccine for prophylaxis of shingles.before vaccination, we have to rule out underlying immunocompromising conditions. You can discuss this with your doctor Meanwhile, include enough green leafy vegetables and fruits in the diet. Hope you will find this answer useful. Thank you
