How To Treat The Itchiness Caused By A Insertion Of Cannula?
Hi. I had surgery two weeks ago - a cannula was put into vein in inside oft wrist and removed next day. My skin where it was us very itchy, driving me nuts. Do u know why? I am allergic to adhesives. Other cannula sites, even old ones from last year in my arms get itchy from time to time too.
You seem to have developed an allergic skin disease. You should avoid applying any kind of skin irritants like dettol, spirit over it.
You might need to apply a topical steroid cream over the affected area twice a day for few days. Take some oral antihistamines along. See a nearby dermatologist if the condition tends to persist despite this therapy. You might need a course of oral steroids.
Hope it helps,
